• Germanischer Lloyd
• American Bureau of Shipping
• Quality Assurance Departments of a number of leading engineering establishments working within the requirements of ISO9002.

RECONDITIONING CAST IRON CYLINDER COVERS
The cost of replacing damaged and defective components such as cylinder covers can be prohibitive, whilst some are virtually irreplaceable. Repairing these components by using our Procedure No. 20 offers a sound and lasting repair at a fraction of the new replacement cost.

On receipt at our works, all components are thoroughtly cleaned, decreased and identified with a unique reference number to ensure trecebility.

The use of up to date and conventional inspection techniques such as introscopic examination, non-destructive testing and dimensional checks often reveal extensive damage, and ensure that all defective and worn areas are noted and subsequently corrected. Where necessary material analyses are taken to ensure welding compatibility.

Once the extent of the defects have been determined, a comprehesive report is forwarted to the client detailing the defects founf and our recommendations for repair. Defective and worn areas are rebuild with close grained machineable cast iron, fused perfectly with the parent material. Strictly controlled pre- and post-heat treatment procedures are individual recorded.

descaling of components is followwd by precision remachining of all critical areas to original limits and tolerances, carried out in our own state-of-the-art workshops.

All items are hydraulically pressure tested and crack detected after final machining within our workshops. Refitting of ancillary parts such as valve quides and valve seat inserts, using cryogenesis, is also carried out in-house.

Thorough quality control checks are carried out at various stages during repair and over 80% of repairs are witnessed by independent classification surveyors as stipulated by the customer.

Material Compatibility

Care is taken to ensure the compatibility of the cover material and welding consumable used, and the pre- and post-heat treatment are carried out in accordance with the requirements for these materials.

The more recent "bore cooled" types of cylinder cover can require quite unique methods of repair depending upon the defects found. In co-operation with ship owners and original euipment manufacturers, methods have been developed and proved to give a satisfactory, long -lasting and cost effective repair.

RECONDITIONING PISTONS FOR 4 STROKE ENGINES
Pistons operating within 4 stroke engines and running on medium and light fuel oils, rarely face the levels of wear, erosion or cracking often seen on 2 stroke pistons. They do however exhibit wear patricularly within the piston ring grooves which inevitably leads to over sizing and often scrapping.

4 stroke pistons have developed in sophistication to match the increasing demands for output and efficiency. The higher brake mean effective pressures (BMEP's) and inertia forces within the engine have driven the choices about materials of construction and component design.

All of the designs of pistons can be recognitioned and most of the key features returned to original sizes and specification.

Grey Cast Iron pistons can be returned to original groove sizes by hard chrome plating. Aluminium pistons without the "alfin" are welded as above and the insert upper and lower groove landing faces hard chrome plated.

Two piece or composite pistons are repaired by welding the aluminium lower piece and hard chrome plating the upper and lower groove landing faces.
SG or high strength Cast Iron Pistons can be hard Chrome Plated on the upper and lower landing faces.

All of the processes of reconditioning are carried out in house by VEEANCO trained staff.

RECONDITIONING EXCHAUST VALVE CAGES
Exhaustive investigations have revealed that there is no short cut to producing a first class reconditioned products. We have established the correct welding parameters, pre and post-heat treatment thereby removing the likehood of cracking through the use of incorrect materials and procedures. VEEANCO's repair procedures are strictly controlled to ensure a quality repair every time.

The seat and landing end of the water cooled cage is removed, often revealing complete blockage or erosion of the coolant passageways.

These passageways are cleared before any necessary internal repairs are a carried out and a new end piece welded onto the body.
material analyses ares taken to ensure the correct matching material is used for the new end piece.

Finish maching is attended to with equal care. Attention to details is essential - in particular the stellited valve seating and valve cage landing faces leave no margin for error.

The same meticulous attention to detail is applied to the reconditioning for upper and lower components of both cooled and uncooled two piece valve cages.

VEEANCO provides a complete reconditioning service for Valve Cauges
RECONDITIONING CONNECTING RODS - PALM ENDED & SERRATED BUTT FACED
When connecting rods arrive at our workshops, each one is individually inspected on state-of-the-art equipment for straightness, cracks and calibration. Each rod is marked with its own unique identification number.

Once the inspection has been completed a remedial report is roduced detailing the work necesary to bring the rod back to the compliant specification of the engine manufacturer.

The reconditioning services include:
• Finish griding to mamanufacturers original tolerances
• Rust prevention processing
• Painting
• Testing
• Protective shrink wrapping for despatch

Our customers receive a test document for the connecting rod, with a record of the unit being retained on our computer archive for future reference.
